The New and Improved Council on Physical Fitness and Sports

Tags: , — Filed under: Domestic Policy — Donna Denison @ 10:16 am

Earlier this week, President Obama signed an executive order establishing the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. Co-chaired by Drew Brees, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints and Dominique Dawes, Olympic Champion in gymnastics; the Council is the expanded version of the former President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The addition of the nutrition component comes as a result of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative in which she hopes to combat childhood obesity.

The new and improved Council will focus on healthy eating and an active lifestyle. Kicking off the launch, the First Lady got her recommended 30 minutes of physical activity by jumping rope, and doing yoga at a local high school in Washington, DC.
