Advocating For Success

Advocacy relating to legislative initiatives have included work on the current and past versions of the FARM bill and its implementation.

Cassidy & Associates worked to encourage increased purchases of fruits and vegetables when oversupply situations existed as well as increase funding for production and health research, market access promotion, and health and disease eradication.

Additional legislative advocacy has included work on food safety, nutrition, and consumer issues including labeling as well as working on international trade and customs issues.

Select Accomplishments

  • Fought to ensure that a level playing field was established among all juice bottlers when the Food and Drug Administration singled out juice manufacturers in response to new FDA requirements mandating disclosure of juice percentages.
  • In the wake of an industry-wide over supply situation, worked with Congress to include over $50 million in one-time direct payments to producers and for USDA commodity purchases.
  • Secured a $10 million Farm Bill research authorization to advance conservation technology, environmental compliance, and new growing and production techniques.
  • Secured language in the House Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill requiring the Secretary of Agriculture to consider the health benefits of phytonutrient rich foods in developing new nutrition standards for USDA’s child and adult feeding programs.
  • Promoted separate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) tariff codes to differentiate and more accurately reflect tariff classifications.
  • Won duty suspension for products exported to the European Union (EU)
  • Secured NAFTA Country of Origin technical modification to allow for juice to be sourced from outside of NAFTA countries to be further processed in the U.S.
