“President Obama and Secretary Clinton have made it my mission to remake USAID in the world’s premier development agency, to meet the security and development needs of the 21st century.”
In comments at the National Press Club last week, Shah said that the effort to reform USAID will be directed at creating a more focuced, evidence-based, impact-oriented, innovative, localized and transparent organization. The renewed commitment to USAID demonstrated by Shah as well as by President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton is welcomed by those in the international community who witnessed the crippling of the organization during the Bush II years, which some argue contributed to the decline of U.S. influence and prestige globally.
