Cassidy Fortifies Clients As Budget Ax Swings At Pentagon

Share |

WASHINGTON – As the Pentagon positions itself to meet $487 billion in spending cuts mandated by the Budget Control Act through two new anticipated rounds of military base closures, Barry Rhoads, president of Cassidy & Associates and former Deputy General Counsel to the 1991 Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC), says today’s call from the Pentagon is significant, but should not be a surprise.

“This is an all hands on deck signal from Washington for communities and businesses across America,” Rhoads said at news of today’s expected announcement by the Pentagon. “The BRAC process has proven that no community or business is bullet proof so all of them must be prepared to make their case as to why, in this period of declining force structure, their installation is irreplaceable to our national defense.”

Rhoads worked on every aspect of the first round of BRAC in 1991 as Deputy General Counsel, with an emphasis on environmental remediation, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Commission and its operating procedures.

Now, as leader of C&A’s National Security Group, Rhoads and his team successfully put in action their on the ground experience from the Pentagon, to Capitol Hill to the White House, by identifying and deploying innovative tactics and strategies to assist businesses and communities that partner with local military installations. These collaborative efforts have helped military bases survive past base closure rounds and position them for long-term mission success.
